Insurance Bad Faith: The plaintiff applied for and was granted a long-term care insurance policy. While the policy was in effect, the plaintiff began showing signs of cognitive decline and Alzheimer's disease, prompting the family to arrange in-home health care. The insurer initially approved the claims and paid out benefits. However, the insurer later sent a letter to the family stating that it no longer considered the plaintiff to be chronically ill. The plaintiff filed a lawsuit against the insurer for bad faith and against the insurance broker for alleged misrepresentation.
